This is a recent work done for a challenge on a Matte Paint site.

I'm start from a collage of some pictures, and play with light and contrast,overpainted or create the others details.

I'm trying to evoke a sense of mystery,solitude,restlessness...

You did a great job with the manips. But there is no atmosphere really. The air in this pic is too clean and sterile. Looks like a 3D rendering. Add a little mist. Make those trees in the background fade into the dense night air. The image doesn't seem dark enough.

These are, of course my opinion. I think you nailed it technically. One of the better manips I've seen.

emarts- It's probably true, but this is a Matte Paint, done for an hypothetical movie's background. Effects like; fog, or depth of field are usually made in post production.

I've made a few seconds avi test with camera mapping and fog added.
I'll post a link to download it!

The matte paint always fashinating me since I read the books of Making of Star Wars,with the Ralph McQuarrie’s illustrations and the pictures of the set before and after the application of the extension set.
With the help of digital today it is possible to enrich even more the athmosphere of the sequence. I think that the collage of different pictures with their constant and improved adicting is the best method in this moment; results are excellent and the method saves time. Big famous artist, use this technique. ;-) Have you seen the avi?

I love the theme and the way you've brought out the cold, deep richness of the unkown gloomy fate of those who may enter.. heh....

The glow in the upper floor window suggests atmospheric mist/fog.
Question; wouldn't that be best left to post production so as to animate it?
